AFP is a protein normally produced during fetal development, but raised levels in adults can indicate liver cancer or testicular cancer. This test is used to help diagnose, monitor or screen for these types of cancer, particularly in people at high risk, such as those with chronic liver disease or a previous tumour disease. The test is done with a blood sample taken at your local clinic and analysed by an accredited laboratory, for example Karolinska, Synlab or
Alpha-1-fetoprotein (AFP)
Alpha-1-fetoprotein (AFP) is a protein your body uses as a tumour marker for liver cancer and certain testicular cancers. When levels climb in adults, it can point to malignancy or liver disease.
hCG
hCG is the hormone your body produces the moment pregnancy begins. A blood test can detect it days before a home test — and track how things are progressing.

Your values appear in your account with reference ranges and an explanation of each marker.
For most tests, we recommend fasting for 10–12 hours before your appointment for the most accurate results. Water is fine. If your test does not require fasting, this will be noted in the test description.
Most of our tests use a standard venous blood sample (blood drawn from a vein in your arm). Some markers can also be tested via a finger-prick capillary sample — this will be indicated on the test page.
All analyses are performed by accredited Swedish laboratories using the same methods as hospital labs. Our partner labs hold ISO 15189 accreditation, the international standard for medical laboratory quality.
Yes. Your Wellth dashboard stores all your previous results so you can track trends and see how your biomarkers change over time. This is especially useful for monitoring the impact of lifestyle changes.
If any of your results fall outside normal ranges, this is flagged in your health report with a clear explanation and recommended next steps. For urgent findings, we will contact you directly.
