Acid-Base Balance Test
Other Tests
Measures bicarbonate together with potassium, sodium and chloride to assess the body's acid-base balance.
VAT-exempt medical service
This test measures the level of bicarbonate in the blood, which helps regulate the body's acid–base (pH) balance. It is often used to assess respiratory or metabolic disorders, such as lung disease, kidney problems or uncontrolled diabetes. Bicarbonate is an important part of the body's buffer system, and changes in the level can give important information about the body's internal environment. The test is done with a blood sample taken at your local clinic and analysed by an accredited laboratory, for example Karolinsk
Bicarbonate Test
Bicarbonate (HCO3-) is the body's primary buffering compound, helping neutralise excess acid and maintain stable blood pH.
Potassium
Potassium is a key electrolyte essential for heart rhythm, muscle contraction, and nerve signalling. Imbalances can have serious health consequences.
Sodium
Sodium is a major electrolyte that regulates fluid balance, nerve impulses, and muscle function. Abnormal levels can indicate dehydration, kidney issues, or hormonal disorders.
Chloride
Chloride is a major electrolyte that helps regulate fluid distribution between cells and maintain the body's acid-base equilibrium.

Get your results
Your values appear in your account with reference ranges and an explanation of each marker.
For most tests, we recommend fasting for 10–12 hours before your appointment for the most accurate results. Water is fine. If your test does not require fasting, this will be noted in the test description.
Most of our tests use a standard venous blood sample (blood drawn from a vein in your arm). Some markers can also be tested via a finger-prick capillary sample — this will be indicated on the test page.
All analyses are performed by accredited Swedish laboratories using the same methods as hospital labs. Our partner labs hold ISO 15189 accreditation, the international standard for medical laboratory quality.
Yes. Your Wellth dashboard stores all your previous results so you can track trends and see how your biomarkers change over time. This is especially useful for monitoring the impact of lifestyle changes.
If any of your results fall outside normal ranges, this is flagged in your health report with a clear explanation and recommended next steps. For urgent findings, we will contact you directly.
